Train Subsidies for Farmers & Discussing Trump Tariffs, Indonesian Inflation Declines

Strategic issues in international trade, targeted socio-economic policies, and price stabilization efforts mark the latest developments in the national Economy. The Indonesian Government is preparing to negotiate with the United States (US) regarding the Trump-era Tariffs to strengthen its trade position. Domestically, President Prabowo Subianto announces a 60% Train Subsidy for farmers and traders, complete with free baggage allowance. On the macro front, the drop in Rice Price is the main factor suppressing October's monthly Inflation, while Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto highlights the strength of the QRIS payment system which is drawing the attention of other countries. In the fiscal realm, Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa also addresses the financing of the Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train (Whoosh) project.

The Indonesian Government is taking strategic steps to strengthen the domestic sector and respond to global issues. President Prabowo Subianto subsidizes 60% of Train Tickets specifically for Farmers and Traders and provides free baggage allowance. This policy aims to reduce logistics costs and support the competitiveness of agricultural products and traditional markets. Macroeconomically, the success of food price stabilization is evident from the fact that the decline in Rice Price is one of the main suppressors of monthly Inflation in October 2025. This fact shows the government's success in maintaining Food Price Stability and public purchasing power.

In the international arena, the government focuses on securing market access. The Indonesian Government will negotiate the Trump Tariffs with the US next week. This negotiation aims to ensure market access for Indonesia's superior commodities and strengthen its trade position amid policy uncertainties in the US. Meanwhile, Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto states that the superiority of the QRIS payment system worries other countries. This statement affirms the international recognition of Indonesia's progress in payment digitalization.

However, significant fiscal challenges still need to be addressed. Danantara, along with Finance Minister Purbaya, is brainstorming ways to discuss the Whoosh Debt (Jakarta-Bandung High-Speed Train project). This discussion highlights the need for an effective fiscal solution to manage the Debt burden of this strategic Infrastructure project.

Indonesia's readiness to negotiate Trump Tariffs shows a focus on securing Export markets. Domestically, the Train Subsidy from Prabowo Subianto is an affirmative step to support the agricultural and traditional market sectors. In the macro sector, the Rice Price reduction suppressing Inflation provides room for monetary policy. Meanwhile, although QRIS is globally recognized, fiscal challenges such as the Whoosh Debt discussed by Finance Minister Purbaya demand careful resource allocation.

The latest developments show a dual focus of the government: strengthening Indonesia's global position through Trade Negotiations with the US, and strengthening the domestic sector through transportation subsidies and food price stabilization. The main challenge going forward lies in securing successful outcomes from international negotiations and formulating a long-term solution for the Whoosh Infrastructure Debt burden.
